About the Artist
Ama's work is rooted in self-expression, culture, heritage, and language. Her practice extends beyond personal expression to include teaching and skill-sharing, bridging the gap between artistic practice and education. She believes in the power of art as a therapeutic outlet and a means of storytelling. Ama's has worked as an art educator for several years at Art-K; and an illustrator and writer for Kokonuthead media and Broken Englizh. Her short film "passengering" has also been featured in the Late at Tate Britain as part of a showcase in collaboration with the Hurvin Anderson exhibition. She is committed to creating inclusive community spaces that welcome diversity and provides a safe environment for individuals to explore their creativity collectively. Ama's practice is centred around decolonial ways of thinking, living and envisioning the future.
